Jalana has been working with childbearing families since 1983. Certified as a doula and Approved Birth Doula Trainer by DONA International and for nine years was Western Canada Director on DONA’s International Board of Directors. Jalana is also a Certified Lamaze Childbirth Educator and taught prenatal classes in the Vancouver area since 1989.
Jalana contributed to the visionary and planning team for this first of a kind multidisciplinary, South Community Birth Program in Vancouver, BC. Jalana Co-facilitates the Programs Connecting Pregnancy group care groups and is the Doula Program Director where she coordinates a team of 35 multicultural doulas to facilitate doula support for over 500 birthing women a year in 25 different languages. www.scbp.ca
In 2010 Jalana received the DONA Founder, Annie Kennedy Award for Excellence in a Doula Program or Group.
She is the mother of one young man, two young women, and has a two very spoiled Golden Labs; she lives in Langley BC with her husband, Chris.
In 2015 both Kathie and Jalana received the Advanced Doula Designation awarded to experienced DONA International doulas who are working, teaching, publishing, mentoring learning in support of the growth and strength of the maternal-child field. They have also been co-investigators on multiple research studies involving doulas and have been training doulas together with passion and humour since 1999.
